A little sneak peek into the Freer home, an old Mallorca finca we are lovingly bringing back to life!
One of the first things we fell in love with here was the incredible Virginia creeper, it covers the entire side façade, and it’s quite a sight when you arrive. Controlling it is… another story. But honestly, it’s worth every bit of the hassle!
The shutters were in real bad shape, far too rotten to save. They will soon be replaced and painted in a soft olive grey-green. We’re also creating little sitting areas on every side of the house, perfect for escaping the midday heat or catching a breeze. Here you can see one of the teak benches I adore—cushion coming soon! I love flanking them with traditional terracotta pots made locally in those old-fashioned shapes. I really dislike modern pots unless they’re something truly wow. We’ve ordered about 25 giant ones that will eventually overflow with cascading plants (one day soon, I hope!).
There’s still so much to do—like the tiny gas-bottle house that’s missing a shutter—but the light in this place makes every unfinished corner feel charming. Location, orientation, ceiling heights… all those details really matter when choosing a home, and this one has plenty of magic.
Inside, we’re shaping new ambiences too. A favourite breakfast corner is built around a big round coffee table and a cheerful mix of armchairs, rocking chairs and stools—because you never know how many people will show up for breakfast, do you!? The rocking chairs are everyone’s favourite, including my dad. I bought them from a neighbour clearing his house! They’re pretty, lightweight and perfect for turning around to watch the sunset. The large square armchairs seat two people comfortably with a mountain of cushions. I move the furniture around constantly—possibly every week! There’s no formula, just turn things around as often as you like. Let the guests do it too; sometimes they surprise you!
